Since going gluten-free there have been many foods that I’ve had to bid farewell to.

Thankfully the food industry has been quite kind to us as of late, and the majority of these things I’ve been able to find pretty good gluten-free versions of, or at least learned to make something almost as good.

Pizza? Check. French Toast? Check. Cinnamon Buns? Big Check. Pigs in a blanket have remained a distant, delicious memory. Until now. Whether you want to make your own batch or would rather throw frozen franks in the oven, we’ve got you covered.

Those of us that bake know how difficult it is to imitate the flaky, moist pastry dough and companies who have tried until now pretty much fall flat. GeeFree Foods noticed the lack of quality gluten-free puff pastry products and decided to do something about it. After mastering the dough, they  quickly went on to bring us franks in a blanket along with other tasty puff pastry delicacies.

 GeeFree Foods

There are currently three products in the GeeFree line: franks in a blanket, chicken pot pie and spanakopita. They also recently started selling pastry sheets, which can be used to make delicious treats such as empanadas, apple turnovers, crab rangoon, or even your own version of franks in a blanket (I’m excited to make some with spicy sausage)! GeeFree also plans to expand their product selection in the future, so look out for more tasty puff pastry treats coming your way.

GeeFree can currently be purchased online from Strictly Gluten Free. You can also find them at gluten-free food retailers locally by searching here on their website. Even more, GeeFree provides a neat print-out flyer that you can bring to your local gluten-free shop to let them know about these amazing products and how they can carry them! Download the PDF here and bring it to your favorite shop!

Make Your Own Pigs in a Blanket

For those of you who aren’t able to find GeeFree franks in a blanket, it’s going to be ok. Pick up some Pillsbury gluten-free pie and pastry dough, and follow these 5 easy steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Roll out gluten-free pastry dough to desired size
  3. Wrap each gluten-free hot dog or sausage in the dough (optional: coat with melted butter)
  4. Place on a cookie sheet
  5. Cook for 15 minutes and enjoy!

I have heard nothing other than amazing reviews of these snacks both from gluten-free and non gluten-free dieters, so try them out and let us know what you think! Have any of you tried the pigs in the blanket or any of the other GeeFree products?
